Nancy is a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a communications analyst and German linguist. There are over 900,000 veterans in Pennsylvania. As Mayor, pre-pandemic, she held monthly workshops to help other veterans and their families navigate the complicated system of applying for available benefits for themselves and their loved ones. With over 190,000 American troops currently deployed and conducting offensive operations in over a dozen countries, and less than 1% of Americans currently serving in uniform during the longest wars in American history, we can do more to inspire young Americans to enter into public service.
We can do this by raising the level of communication between ourselves and our children through assemblies, town halls, and open conversations. The first time we engage with the youth in our communities should not be when we are asking for their service, or their vote. As members of our communities they should feel that their voices and concerns are valuable to us at all times.
